The Man David

Reading The Man David by Harry Tennant has been extremely helpful while going through the Biblical account of his life. David truly shows us how to put God first, no matter what position we hold in this world. There are too many lessons shared in this book to begin to explain. The author allows us moments of self-examination of our own characters. He also makes connections to the greater Son of David, our Lord Jesus Christ. This is one of the best character studies I've ever done.

Women of the Bible

From what I can tell, it took awhile to get this book written and put together. I am grateful that dedicated Sisters decided to compile a book called, Women of the Bible. Who knew there were so many lessons to be pulled from the lives of women long ago? The mini-essays contained within are wonderfully written and easily read. I recommend this book to mothers to read to their daughters, teenagers, and anyone interested in learning more about the lives and works of women of the Bible.

Wrestling Jacob

Since reading Abraham: Father of the Faithful, I have also read Wrestling Jacob by the same author, H.A. Whittaker. Another profound study that I highly recommend to those desiring to learn more about the character and life of Jacob. There are many lessons to be learned from Jacob's life to be applied to our lives today.

"But, alas, the pilgrim of today is only another Jacob in modern dress, just as prone as he to assume that God needs his scheming and labour in order to bring the pilgrimage to a successful end. Yet the words of God remain an undying guarantee that God can make a success of the inglorious efforts of the weakest of His creatures." p. 34

Abraham: Father of the Faithful

After reading about Abraham in the book of Genesis, I was eager to learn more about this faithful man of God. Searching through my home library, I found this gem: Abraham: Father of the Faithful by H.A. Whittaker. I am halfway into the book and loving it more as I go. Brother Harry has a way of pulling the facts and lessons together to teach his readers. He also clears up misinterpretations others have had about Abraham. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to any student of the Bible.

"In any age, ancient or modern, the life of faith is all against natural inclination. God grant that this little book may prove to be a help to readers of God's Word who aspire to the faith of Abraham." ~Preface, p. 7
